Making Headway
This week I have been diligently unsubscribing to all the junk emails from the likes of Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, etc. I don't need to be alerted to more way to spend my money and I definitely don't need to be told what is the newest and best thing I *must* own. I've also stopped visiting dealnews.com and woot.com. I'm trying to get away from all the unnecessary consumerism I used to be so in love with. I recently purchased a tv and dvd player from Best Buy on their credit card. It will be the last thing I purchase on credit for a long time.

Let's Get Started
So, I've been trying to write the first blog post in regards to my finding out about Voluntary Simplicity and Downshifting but have been too busy at work to do so! So here's the abridged version.
On Tuesday I Googled "how to work less" and came across the book Downshifting: How to Work Less and Enjoy Life More by John Drake. I thought that sounded like a damn good idea. After a flurry of web searching on the topic I came to the conclusion that incorporating the principles of Downshifting into my life would be a step in the right direction. I was eating my lunch as all this new information was brewing in my brain. As if confirming my thoughts the wrapper of my chocolate told me to "Slow down today, enjoy what you have." I have been trying to do that ever since.
In looking around for information regarding Voluntary Simplicity I came across this awesome and inspiring blog; Adventures in Voluntary Simplicity. You really need to go and check it out...seriously.
So, that's all for now. I'll update later on with what I am doing to try and simplify my life. I won't be going quite so far as Jack (see linked blog above) at this moment in time, but I will be working towards being a happier and healthier person for my family and myself every day.
